In simplest terms, marketing is the process of determining and satisfying customer needs through specific promotion and sales efforts. Basic elements in market- ing might include market research, brand- ing, public relations and advertising. Working towards the ultimate goal of hav- ing the customer purchase one’s product or service, a marketing team attempts to drive sales by building relationships, communicat- ing value, connecting a product’s capabili- ties with consumer needs, and developing a reputation of positive fulfillment. Many companies have their own market- ing departments in-house while others hire outside independent marketing firms to manage their needs. Some of the careers inside the marketing profession might in- clude digital marketing specialists, market research analysts, brand strategist, adver- tising account representatives and market- ing managers. Because of the diverse skillsets needed for each type of position in marketing, these careers might appeal to a very technically-minded person as well as someone else who is extremely cre- ative. Marketing careers are expected to grow at a faster rate than average, with a projected 6% increase between 2024 and 2034, making it an ideal setting to begin and excel in one’s professional life. I Music Business The business community is comprised of numerous subgroups such as healthcare, retail, financial, construction, real estate, etc. While each category has its own pur- pose and individualized processes, the fun- damentals of business are always the same. One of the most uniquely exciting sectors for students to consider is music business, a specialized profession of managing, pro- moting and distributing the work of cre- ative artists to achieve commercial success. From coordinating recording sessions, tours and performances to negotiating contracts and developing marketing strate- gies for artist exposure, music business pro- fessionals are able to focus their creativity, organization skills and problem-solving to ultimately find success not only for their contracted artists, but for themselves as well. While known to be a highly compet- itive field, music business is one of the most satisfying careers within the business community offering advancement and ex- cellent earning potential. I Supply Chain Whether a company produces products or provides specialized services, every busi- ness requires a complex network of organ- izations, resources and suppliers that are collectively called a supply chain. From procuring raw materials through manufac- turing and transportation, each company’s supply chain requires constant manage- ment to assure the overall operation is properly equipped in the most cost-effi- cient manner. Careers in supply chain in- clude supply chain managers, logistics managers, purchasing managers, ware- house managers and other specialized po- sitions such as inventory analysts and demand planners. Because of their high demand, strong earning potential and strong growth opportunities, careers in supply chain are extremely desirable in today’s business communities.
